Experience DUO’s ‘sacred space’ at Parade of Renovations, October 1
If you’re planning a home renovation, you will not want to miss the Parade of Renovations on Sunday, October 1 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. DUO Building’s Blackfriars Estates condo renovation at 80 Barton Street is one of six homes featured on this tour. We can’t wait to walk you through this elegant and modern home, a sacred sanctuary that marries contemporary style with historical presence.
DUO has participated in the London Home Builders’ Association’s Parade of Renovations every year since it began 27 years ago.
“This annual event is a fantastic opportunity to not only see completed renovations but to touch the work and ask the renovator questions,” says John Relouw, a DUO partner and Vice-Chair of the London Home Builders Associations’ Renovators’ Council. “This tactile experience with access to the renovator is invaluable when you are planning a renovation.”
The Blackfriars Estates is a hidden gem nestled in in Downtown London, overlooking the Thames River. Built out of the historical Raleigh House (circa 1866), the Estates’ restoration and renovations, which were completed in 2014, pay homage to the historical architecture of this magnificent house.
Our clients purchased the 2,000 square foot newly renovated condo with an expectation to live there for a very long time. However, the existing floor plan did not match their lifestyle, needs or wants.
They called on DUO to open up the space so that the kitchen, dining and living areas occupy one big room. Their new kitchen is European and ultra-sheik, and spills into the converted upscale and elegant garden room, which provides additional living space with amazing views of the changing seasons. Sparkle is everywhere.
A gas fireplace was added to the garden room with built-in cabinetry, floor-to-ceiling windows, and garden doors to access the palatial gardens.
We also updated every room with heated flooring, and eliminated the cast iron rads.
The original kitchen, located at the front entrance, was transformed into a storage and media room, and a grand entrance to this beautiful home.
DUO prides itself on giving older buildings a modern facelift without compromising historical integrity. This renovation epitomizes this balance. The historical elements of this gracious space were maintained and every modern convenience was added to create a space that will inspire the present owners to stay for a very long time.
The Parade of Renovation’s entry fee is $10 per person with all proceeds benefiting Sanctuary London, which provides a unique, healthy community with a sense of belonging for those affected by poverty. Parade tickets can be purchased at any participating home during the tour.
