This year, Duo Building Ltd.

Has Won the Renovator of the Year Award for 2017.


We are delighted and very humbled to win this prestigious award. We have won this award in previous years as well. And each time, the win reminds us of our responsibility to be good stewards in how we do business with our clients, our employees, and with the greater community. We are very grateful for this award. Each year, General Contractors/Renovators are encouraged to go through the submission process. The judging criteria includes a review of the company by a committee of peers, floor plan scoring system by industry professionals on functionality and uniqueness, and customer satisfaction surveys completed by recent clients.

This award highlights the LHBA member company that sets the standard for the rest of the industry through its leadership in improving the overall image of the industry. We do not take the award lightly. It is with hard work, commitment to customer service, consistency in workmanship and having a team of talented employees that allowed us to win the award.

The name DUO Building Ltd. is synonymous with leadership in design/build home renovations, commercial projects and custom homes in London and surrounding area. DUO works collaboratively with customers to create custom designs to suit individual tastes, lifestyles, and budgets. We treat our staff like family and have a profit sharing plan for employees. We encourage employees to take greater responsibility for the company’s success, from project concept to completion. By doing so, we have a low employee turn-over rate and have engaged employees. Through repeat customers, referrals, word of mouth, and reputation, we have successfully grown our business. The DUO team is community-minded with both its volunteer time and donations.

The Customer is the Centre of Every Decision


Duo has a comprehensive business process to ensure from the beginning to the end of each project, customers are at the centre of every decision. On-going open communication with the clients, the staff, and the trades is the thread to ensuring the project is successful. We use a cloud-based communication system that tracks the job from beginning to end. The client can communicate with their dedicated lead carpenter that is assigned to their project. The client can also see regular updates on the project schedule, weekly logs with pictures to show the status of the project, and billings. Our customers really like this system. Internally we use this cloud-based system to track all project details, schedules, change orders and communication with our trades.

Our Goal is a Happy Satisfied Customer

Having a dedicated carpenter attached to each project helps ensure the project runs well and on time. It also helps with being available for the client to do regular check-ins. Part of our business process is to do half-time walk-throughs with the client. If there are any concerns we get to address them quickly and ensure during the balance of the project we are on track of meeting their expectations. At the end of the project, our goal is a happy satisfied customer who loves their new space.

To add to our Duo services, we hired an in-house designer to join our team. This truly has elevated our services to becoming a full design-build company. Steve Charles, has his BCIN, and has worked in the industry for the past 15 years.

We offer a 3-year warranty on any Duo work. And once a Duo client, we respond quickly to any client request.


We Care About Community


Our staff is involved in a lot of outside volunteer activities. We totaled collectively 986 volunteer hours last year. This included board roles, coaching hockey, Business Cares Food drive, employee donations to charities and much more.

Last year, Patrick Malloy Owner of Duo, was the Chair of the Renovation Council. This is a working group of contractors who meet regularly to affect change in the building industry and work collaboratively together in support local causes. Such as Business Cares Food Drive, Parade of Renovations, Fire Alarm blitzes and educating the general community on building practices. Pat is also a board member of the Unity Project and the London Club.

Pat, with an eye on the future of Duo, has been working on the best way to transition ownership over the next few years. And knowing the success of the business relies on having a well-oiled machine, quality work, good policies and procedures, strategic planning and having the right people on the bus in the right seats.

Mark Malouin, John Relouw, and Keelan Malloy were selected for their talent and their investment in the future of Duo.

We believe it is our responsibility to be involved in and support the business community. Last year Duo hired over 150 local trades from the London and surrounding area to work with us on our projects. We also source local products and services whenever possible. Minimizing the carbon footprint.

And most importantly, having happy customers is the key to a successful ongoing business. We are fortunate to have an amazing group of clients we have worked with over the years. In parting, happy employees make happy clients.
